Television since 2000

Cable TV was very expensive before the 1990’s, so the people that were economically deprived could not afford to have the leisure of cable television.


Then Don H. Barden, an African American entrepreneur came to the inner city of Detroit with opportunities for the people to subscribe to cable television for a low price.


Don Barden founded Barden Cablevision in 1988, however the company did not get active customers until 1989 because he had to wire the entire City of Detroit under and over ground so that the cable would work properly.


There were 156 channels in the early nineties with 120,000 subscribers to Barden Cablevision. The cable industry went from $20.4 billion in revenues in 1991 to $45.2 billion in 2008. In 1996 Don Barden sold Barden Cablevision to Comcast Cable.


Since the purchase of Barden Cablevision, Comcast Cable has added Internet, Phone and more channels to their line-up.


Since Cable Television has evolved the families of America has spent more time in the house watching pay-per-view then they have spent going out to movies.


Cable TV has become a big part of American Popular Culture due to the various music channels such as BET (Black Entertainment Television), MTV (Music Television), Realty Television, etc., that is offered to the customers.


America will go from Analog TV (antenna) to Digital Conversion on June 12, 2009. This will allow stations to offer improved picture and surround sound causing enhanced audio & video.

Wow Cablevision has over 400 Channels with 3.5 million customers currently. WOW only serves the suburban areas of America.

Comcast Cable has over 600 Channels with 14.7 million customers currently.

AT & T U-Verse has over 500 Channels with 4.3 Million currently (Satellite television)
